Jack’s Winning Words 8/5/20
“The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.”  (Jimmy Johnson)  Current slang seems to have altered the meaning of “extra.”  Being extra now means, “trying too hard to be different” in a negative way.  What Coach Johnson had in mind by extra was the football player (or individual) who does more than expected.  On whatever team…sports, work, home…that person who tries harder is the one who makes a difference.  Are there extraordinary people in your life?  :-)  Jack

FROM RS IN TEXAS:  In my life - yes.....you being one.===JACK:  None of us really know how we have affected the lives of others.

FROM GOOD DEBT JON:  I am a fan of incremental change, I like Dan Sullivan's advice on this:
Measure the gain, not the gap.” Dan Sullivan, the founder of Strategic Coach, created the idea of “measuring the gain.” It’s simple: instead of constantly measuring yourself against your future ideal, measure yourself against where you were previously. By seeing progress, your confidence and sense of momentum will increase. Your gratitude will increase. Your appreciation of where you are now will increase.===JACK:  Sometimes we use the yardstick when we should be using the metric system.===JON:  Kids, give 'em a centimeter and they take a kilometer. ===JACK:  In the real world we learn from each other.  Do you remember Rocky and Bullwinkle and Mr Know-it-all?

FROM WILLMAR REV:  Wouldn't have mounted with much success without them . . . very thankful for them all!! 0;-)===JACK:  I'm wondering how much influence/change has happened in your life because of your wife and her family...a rhetorical question. ===REV:  Definitely picked up some Italian cultural, influences from a larger family with close ties (9 girls) and her adjustments from a spouse from the Midwest rural community, multiple nationalities within his family line and being married to a pastor with a strong desire for community ties. 0;-)

FROM BLAZING OAKS:  Thank Heaven for people in this world who "go the extra mile"...(you being one of them!) I've sent cards of appreciation to many of  them, and also have received  such cards myself (humbling!!) They balance the ones who are content to eat, play, and sleep, who never
question why they were put on this earth!===JACK:  I can usually tell, by the cards chosen, when people have made the effort to send special cards.

FROM OUTHOUSE JUDY:  Words seem to be changing meaning quickly lately.  Sick!  Lol ===JACK:  Just to keep you up on things....In the dictionary of modern slang, the word "sick" means GREAT!  For example, if someone lets out a loud belch, the response, "sick!" means that it was a great belch.  Your responses to WWs are often sick!

FROM TAMPA SHIRL:  Yes! Everyone who comes to visit!===JACK:  Do you have visitors, other than family?

FROM SK IN SJ:  I think his name is Jack!===JACK:  Are you referring to the modern slang definition of extra?===SK: No! I think you always do nice things! You are very thoughtful ! That is extra special to me!===JACK:  Thanks
