Jack’s Winning Words 8/4/20
“Everyone needs a friend who will call up and say, Get dressed; we’re going on an adventure.”  (Sent by Andy Bezenah)  Do you have such a friend?  Has it ever happened to you?  If I were do such a thing, it would be to go to the Humbug Marsh. (An International Wildlife Refuge on the Detroit River). It doesn’t really matter what the adventure is, but the fact that a friendship is being nourished is what makes it special. The adventure just makes it more fun.  ;-)  Jack

FROM ER IN SKO:  What a fun, and great idea! I can't wait to put this into action!===JACK:  What kinds of "doable things" would you consider being adventurous?

FROM GOOD DEBT JON:  My annual media event that brings me to the Dearborn area every few years has been moved to online (COVID-19) for Thursday.  Perhaps you’ll get that adventurous call next year—all the best, sir. ===JACK:  Dearborn would be fun, but iffy.  Maybe we could ZOOM sometime and see how that works.

FROM SK IN SJ:  I have the most wonderful friend who invited me to Freeport for shopping and a picnic. It was a fun ad

FROM MAILMAN MIKE:  Thanks Jack..  Humbug Marsh sounds like a lovely day trip. ===JACK:  You might Google "Humbug Marsh" and meet my friend, John Hartig, for a virtual tour.  After the pandemic eases we might go on a real tour together.

FROM TAMPA SHIRL:  Yes that is the fun of life! It is inn interesting to see all of the changes at the beaches! Mostly it is all of the people coming to Florida!===JACK:  I'd like to see people rolling cigars.  Is that still done in Tampa?===SHIRL: Yes it is! There is a great museum in our city!

FROM DM IN LIV:  Good Morning Pastor Jack,   Are you referring to West Bloomfield Fire Fighter Andy Bezenah?  One my favorite people in the whole world!  😊===JACK:  One and the same.  Andy retired at an age (and with good health) so that he could enjoy some of the real adventures that life holds.===DM:  I love watching his adventures on Facebook!  I need to get out and have some of my own. 😊

FROM BS IN ENGLAND:   I have had such an invitation to go to Wymondham this Friday where there is an Abbey.  Looking  forward to seeing a good friend.  She calls me her Bestest Oldie! ====JACK:  Any place in England would be an adventure for me...since I've never been there.  I would like to "see" things that the usual tourist never sees.  Adventurous!

FROM THE YOGA QUEEN:  Love that !!!! I am going to share w my friends. Thank you. ===JACK:  "Spur of the moment" adventure ideas are among the best.

FROM BLAZING OAKS:  My friends and I have done "spur-of-the-moment" things, once retired, but whether you'd call them "adventures" or not is debatable...occasionally a bit of spice was added, such as my being stopped for speeding with a carload of "older" girlfriends, and quickly pleaded that a friend in the back seat had an urgent need for the bathroom, and I was speeding to the nearest rest stop a few miles ahead! :-(  He quickly wrote out a warning, and sent us on our way!!  (They never forgot my "quick-thinking", unfortunately!)===JACK:  I'll bet that there are lots of "Did you hear what the minister's wife did?" stories floating around in the churches where Bill served (with you by his side).

FROM OUTHOUSE JUDY:  We often take spontaneous day trips.  We go up into the Thumb Area.  Grindstone City is a favorite but we visit all the little towns up there.  We have a special little beach to swim and picnic that’s a favorite with the grandkids and is never overcrowded.  We go at the drop of a hat or a plead from the grandkids.===JACK:  My sister and I have many remembrances of adventures that happened in our lives during childhood.  You're making a Memory Book for your grandchildren, too.===JUDY:  We want our kids and grandkids to have the work fearful memories of growing up and traveling as we both did.  We both grew up travel across the USA and we do the same with our family.  Those are the best memories for you and your sister and our family!

FROM NORM'S BLOG:  That sentiment is especially true in today’s COVID-19 environment, although it might have to be changed to read, “Grab your mask; we’re going on an adventure.”  One of the bad side effects of the pandemic has been the isolation of so many people, especially the elderly. Many were probably already somewhat isolated by other health issues; however, the need to social distance because of the Corona Virus has taken that isolation to a whole new level.  For the younger, who might be more tech savvy, it was an easier shift to the world of Zoom meetings and other forms of contactless communications. Many of the elderly don’t even have a wireless phone, much less a smart one and many do not have access to a computer, much less one that is on the Internet. For these people, the requirements imposed by the pandemic have been like a sentence of solitary confinement. Perhaps they see one or two people a day or on occasion. Maybe they see the Meals on Wheel driver or an orderly at their facility, but that is not the same as a visit with a friend.  If the person that you are thinking of is confined to a care facility there is little that you can do to visit or take them anywhere right now; however, a phone call and a chat might make their day. If they are still living at home a visit might work, even if you have to sit on the porch at a safe distance to have a conversation. For a few, who might be in good health and willing, picking them up for a short trip (an adventure) would be a great way to liven up their day. Just remember to mask up and have hand sanitizer available.  Whatever way you and your friend feel comfortable getting together (in person or electronically), the important thing is that do it. Your “adventure” may involve nothing more than a lively conversation or a rousing round of reminiscing, but is will make both of you feel better.  Call someone you know today who may need to talk to someone else. Be adventurous if you and they feel safe to do so and go visit with them; otherwise, just have a nice long call with them.  be that friend.===JACK:  "Grab your mask!"  I like the way you put into today's situation.
