 Jack’s Winning Words 12/1/21

“The trouble is, you think you have time.”  (Buddha)  I’ve commented before that I like Jim Croce’s song, “Time In A Bottle.”  If only there were some way for us to have a “time” savings account,...especially so with the good times.  Has there been some special “good time” that you’d like to relive and relive?  Robert H Smith wrote: “The clock of life is wound but once, and no one has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour.’  I’m satisfied NOT to see how much sand remains in life’s hour glass.  Are you like me?  ;-)  Jack

FROM WILLMAR REV:  I have only just a minute,  Only sixty seconds in it.  Forced upon me, can’t refuse it.  Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it.  But it’s up to me  to use it.  I must suffer if I lose it.  Give account if I abuse it.  Just a tiny little minute,  but eternity is in it. (Dr Benjamin E. Mays)===JACK:  I'm thankful for the gift of memory that allows me to recall things, such as your poem, and work them into sermons or conversations.

FROM HOMELESS :  This WW was timely in its arrival today. My clock is ticking. Thank you.===JACK:  The clock is ticking for everyone of us.  It's just that some are not aware of it.  Enjoy each day.

FROM ST PAUL IN ST PAUL:  a good thot as we come closer to the end of another year. ===JACK: ...or, as we come closer to beginning a new year.  In fact, every year, every month, every day, every minute, every second. ... These are chances to begin anew.

FROM BLAZING OAKS:  Yes! Glad we don't know when our time will be up!  At 91, I know the future is limited, but not exactly how limited!  Nice to have memories to re-live the precious times in our lives!!  I'm so blessed to have my good mind at my age!!!===JACK:  Did you know that those of us between 90 and 100 are called: nonagenarians?  We know that the "end of the road" is in sight.  The younger folks blithely go on their way as if there will always be: tomorrow.

FROM SR IN SJ:  I'm like you, Jack!!! There is a time for everything, isn't there?. . .and there is mystery!!===JACK:  One of my favorite songs is by Iris Dement, "I'll just let the mystery be."  Pull it up on Youtube!  Here are the lyrics:

Lyrics
Everybody is a wonderin' what and where they all came from
Everybody is a worryin' 'bout where
They're gonna go when the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain and so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be
Some say once you're gone you're gone forever
And some say you're gonna come back
Some say you rest in the arms of
The Saviour if in sinful ways you lack
Some say that they're comin' back in a
Garden, bunch of carrots and little sweet peas
I think I'll just let the mystery be
Everybody is a wonderin' what and where they all came from
Everybody is a worryin' 'bout where
They're gonna go when the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain and so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be
Some say they're goin' to a place called
Glory and I ain't saying it ain't a fact
But I've heard that I'm on the road to
Purgatory and I don't like the sound of that
Well, I believe in love and I live my life accordingly
But I choose to let the mystery be
Everybody is a wonderin' what and where they all came from
Everybody is a worryin' 'bout where
They're gonna go when the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain and so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be
I think I'll just let the mystery be

FROM BS IN ENGLAND:  Definitely!===JACK:  Que sera, sera!

FROM PROUD MARY:  I like waking up and thinking “Wow I’m here to start another day!” Then I thank Creator for the great gift. Some days play out more troubling than other’s but each a precious lesson. I would love to relive when my children were tiny and still fit in my arms. Well…then I realize that’s what memories and grandchildren are for! I’m with you about the hour glass thing. I like the surprise of awakening. One day it will be on the other side. Rebirth!===JACK:  WOW, you've become your mother!

FROM IKE AT THE MIC:  On that theme,I'm reminded of Ikeism#336:
"The trouble in life is that we grow old too fast & wise too slow."===JACK: The original of your Ikeism is probably:  "We get too soon old und too late schmart."  Its source?    It's listed as a German, Dutch, Yiddish, Chinese, Japanese, Pennsylvanian German, Amish, Swedish and Danish proverb.  Take your pick. ===IKE:   Since I am Jewish & my last name is German I'm biased in my selection,I'll keep you posted.===JACK:  Did you speak Yiddish in your home? ===IKE:  Yes & outside in Romania & now able to speak yiddish anywhere in the greatest country in the whole world-AMERICA!===JACK:  Maybe teaching Yiddish "wise sayings"to Americans would help the disgruntled to appreciate what a great country this is.===IKE:  One of my favorite comedians was Sam Levinson & he used to tell the story that his father came to America because in yiddish America was called "The goldena medina" which loosely translated means the"Golden" country.  In fact, it was joked that the streets were even paved of gold.  Upon arriving his father realized 3 things: 1st-The streets in America were not paved of gold. 2nd-Most of the streets streets in America weren't even paved.  3rd-He had to do the paving.  In short ,if you are willing to work America is  truly "The goldena medina".
I can personally attest to that!===JACK: Great story.  I liked Sam Levenson, too.  We need to resurrect some of those old-time values...and the work ethic is one of them.
