Jack’s Winning Words 10/7/21
“Love is, or it ain’t. Thin love ain’t love at all.” (Tori Morrison) There
were times during the Great Depression when thin soup (soup with water added)
was our meal. It was soup in name only. It can be that way with
love, too. I recall a song, “Is you is, or is you ain’t my baby?”
Is your “love” genuine, or just a fake? Jesus encouraged real love, a
real caring for people, even for the people around us…family members,
working partners, the stranger on the street. Either there’s “care” or
there isn’t. “Thin-care ain’t care at all.” ;-) Jack
FROM EDUCATOR PAUL: A history professor I had, Milton Convinsky, was an expert on Greek- Roman history and World Religions. He once said that Jesus was the first religious leader who introduced the concept of “love” beyond that of procreation or intimate relationships.===JACK: It's interesting to hear that a WSU professor made that comment...seeming accepting Jesus as an historical figure. Some would see him as a myth. Regardless, Jesus is truly identified with the concept of love being something other than a sexual feeling.
FROM SR IN SJ: Tremendous, Jack! I often do "think care" and it ain't care at all. . . .😌===JACK: Is it possible? Thin-prayer ain't no prayer at all? I'll let God be the judge of that.===SR: Oh, love your solution to that symptom of "thin prayer", my state of being this entire week!===JACK: The old Baptist preacher prayed, "O Lord, forgive my "falling shorts." We all fall short in so many ways.
FROM BLAZING OAKS: I LOVE HOW YOU CONNECT THE OLD SONGS TO SO MANY SITUATIONS...IT'S BEEN MANY YEARS SINCE i SANG OR HEARD "IS YOU IS, OR IS YOU AINT MY BABY"! :-) YES, IT'S EASIER TO SAY "I LOVE YOU" THAN TO SHOW IT DAY AFTER DAY, YEAR AFTER YEAR! I LOVE THE CONCEPT OF :THIN LOVE" AND "THIN CARE"....NOT BEING ADEQUATE!!! GREAT WORDS TO PONDER TODAY, AND TO BE MORE AWARE OF HOW WE CARE!!!===JACK: I think that it was Bonho effer who wrote about "Cheap Grace," which is sort of like "Thin Love."
FROM MD IN BSFL Loving your neighbor as you love yourself would solve all the world's problems. So simplistic but we make it so complicated.===JACK: That was my goal as a pastor....tp make religion and the Church less complex and more understandable. Like with anyone shooting at a target...sometimes you miss; sometimes you come close; sometimes you hit the bullseye.
