JACK'S WINNING WORDS 12/13/06
“Youth cannot know how age thinks and feels. But old people are guilty if they forget what it was to be young.”
(J. K. Rowling) Do you have a favorite memory of a time when you were younger? Ask a young person what they think it will be like when they grow older, and see what kind of an answer you get. You might want to share the results. ;-) Jack

FROM GEORGE CARLIN:
>> HOW TO STAY YOUNG

>> 1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and
>> height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay
>> "them!"
>>
>> 2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
>>
>> 3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening,
>> whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's
>> workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
>>
>> 4. Enjoy the simple things.
>>
>> 5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
>>
>> 6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only
>> person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves.
>> Be ALIVE while you are alive.
>>
>> 7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family,
>> pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.
>> Your home is your refuge.
>>
>> 8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is
>> unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get
>> help.
>>
>> 9 Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next
>> county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
>>
>> 10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every
>> opportunity.

Favorite time was in college, being able to pick and choose all those classes, when the semester was over, it was really over, total relaxation, lots of stimulation, everything glittered with hope and promise of learning to do things better. I would say, from that beneficial experience, for me, old age still goes on with life-long learning.

I'm only 36 so I don't have too much past to call myself "old" but I have great memories of my family when I was young. (Not that they still aren't great but it's different)

Anytime at my grandparent's house was like a magical time. It sounds silly but it's true. It makes me feel all fuzzy and warm inside just thinking about it. I LOVED my time at their house and I love my family.
