Winning Words 2/4/13
“Nobody is born with perfect eyebrows.” (Linda Evangelista – fashion model) Believe it, or not…there’s such a thing as an eyebrow transplant. Cosmetic ads are designed to instill insecurities in us about our looks. What is “beauty,” after all? Gaze around you today and try to answer that question. If you look at the total person, you’ll find some “beautiful” people out there, regardless of their eyebrows. ;-) Jack
FROM WALMART REV: They removed a cancerous mole off the middle of my left eyebrow a couple of months ago...has caused my brow to be pulled somewhat at that point... that"s why I now wink with my left eye when I smile...0;-)////JACK: You'd better be careful with your "winking" as you sit in the coffee shop watching the shoppers pass by.
FROM SHARIN' SHARON: To me the most beautiful people in the world have come to know they are a foot or a hand, an ear or an eye or an eyebrow, and strive for the greater gifts. Easiest to get along with too. My hope is others see me as one of them. Glad to think about eyebrows this morning.////JACK: Perfect!
FROM GOOD DEBT JON: My daughter and niece grow their hair very long and then donate a 12 inches of it to "Locks of Love," an organization that makes wigs for girls and ladies that have gone through chemo treatments and lost their hair. They kid me about donating my excess eyebrows to "Brows of Love" for old guys that go through chemo. When I was in the 4th grade, I thought it would be cool to shave my eyebrows off, so I did. But they came back with a vengeance. My regular hair stylist just mows 'em down with each haircut without comment.////JACK: Does anyone compare you to the character in the Dick Tracy comic strip called, The Brow?////JON: Not yet. They do kid about a caterpillar falling in love with my left eyebrow last spring.
FROM GUSTIE MARLYS: Seems to me that when I was in college, kids plucked their eyebrows out so they could draw them in with an eyebrow pencil!!! I think life is better if you just go with what God gave you!////JACK: I've read that today, instead of using an eyebrow pencil, some are having their eyebrows tattooed.
FROM TAMPA SHIRL: My mother shaved her eyebrows off when she was young and they never grew back. My daughters get theirs done at the beauty salon. Eyebrows are not a big thing to me. Beauty is more than skin deep.////JACK: I've read that the purpose of eyebrows is to keep sweat and dandruff out of your eyes. Everything has its purpose.
FROM PLAIN FOLKS CHESTER: John L. Lewis was a donor.////JACK: In case you're interested, there's a place in Detroit that does eyebrow restoration. The procedure consists of taking hairs from other places on the body and implanting them to where the eyebrow hair normally grows. It’s important that thin hair follicles are used for women, so the results look natural. Usually for women, hair follicles will be taken from areas such as behind the ear or on the upper thigh where the hairs are thinner than hair on the head. For men, hair follicles will be taken from other places on the skin, depending on the natural thickness of the eyebrows. The entire process requires 50 to 100 or more hair follicles to be implanted, which varies by the individual patient.
FROM BLAZING OAKS: I read yrs. ago that Bette Davis shaved her eyebrows to play Queen Elizabeth, (or was it Victoria?) and they didn't grow back, and had to be "pencil stroked on". Can't imagine this would e a big concern for many people, but from your blog, apparently to some it is!! Although "God looks on the heart", man does look on the outward appearance, so I've always felt one should pay attention, and look as attractive as you can in order to represent your faith positively. When people get to know you, the inner beauty becomes apparent, if one is fortunate to have it!! Interesting WW today.////JACK: I know of a pastor who bothered to figure out how long, and how much money was spent by the average woman to put on their makeup. He made the mistake of revealing the results at a women's meeting. They didn't see the humor. In fact one of the ladies made an estimate of the time it took him to trim his little moustache and sent the results to him anonymously.
FROM KF IN MICHIGAN: Eyebrow transplants cost about $7,000 (not sure where I heard that!)
Or, you can have them tattooed on for about $100 - $200. Crazy what people worry about! Mine are barely there, and about 90% gray !!////JACK: I guess, if you're a model, like Linda Evangelista, you worry about a lot of things. One person who doesn't seem to age is Sophia Loren. :
