Jack’s Winning Words 7/20/17
"Borta bra men hemma bäst"  (Swedish Proverb)  I first saw these words on a library wall at college.  Curiosity led me to a translation:  “Away is good but home is best.”  “Dorothy” gave another…”There’s no place like home!”  We each have our “home” thoughts.  They might be the place where we grew up, the place where family is.  Even baseball has its “home” plate...Home is best!  Songwriters have often used “home” as a theme.  What comes to mind?   ;-)  Jack

We're mailing you a card, Pastor Freed. You and all your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Your WW this morning about "home" led me to reflect on what I believe is the most necessary aspect of "home" I know--so far. It was demonstrated by our little grandson, Alex, just recently. Alex's parents and he took a 2 1/2 week roadtrip through the Southeast this summer. Alex was very adaptable and easy-going the whole time, learned to wave bye-bye to all they met and blow kisses and so forth (he is 14 months old), went to sleep easily and so forth. They came back home on a weekend and Alex was very happy to be at home again and see his toys again but he also spent a day just sort of aimlessly wandering around. Finally, late afternoon, he had a big melt-down. The little tyke was realizing, I believe, that he was finally in a "safe place" where he could process and begin to understand all the change that he had experienced. A home saying I really like is "Home is where they have to take you in." When we all get to heaven, like Mary, we'll finally be finished with all the changes we experience down here on earth and and won't have need to process our feelings, we'll be beyond that. It's a glorious reality to anticipate but, in the meantime, we still have things to do here and we're thankful for you, Pastor Freed. Take care.

My mother used to say, "Why leave fun, to have fun?" She knew home was where the real fun happened! I would add that you can be home in many physical spaces. Home is a place of unconditional love and acceptance. Thank you for making me, and so many others, feel at home!
